I started looking deeper into government transportation contracts recently because I wanted to understand where the work is actually going. I already knew about SAM.gov. Most operators that have dealt with government work know about SAM, NAICS codes and the normal bidding process. That’s not what surprised me. What caught my attention was what happens before we ever see the bid. A lot of us in transportation are trained to look for the trip. Government needs 10 buses. The bid comes out. We quote it. Somebody wins. But when you start following the money backwards, you realize some of those trips are coming from contracts that were won years earlier.
